The Working Group was set up by the ABA School stakeholders. This arose from the meeting held on 24th March 2010 when it was proposed that there could be a different strategy applied to get a better outcome for the Pilot ABA Schools. The presentation of the draft deal document at the earlier 6th March meeting had generated significant levels of concern about the prospects of the ABA Schools if the schools were forced to accept the offer that was being concluded in discussions with the IAA's Negotiating Team. It was agreed that The Working Group would report back to the next ABA Schools Stakeholders meeting, at which a possible "Plan B" would be presented.
All interested stakeholders were invited to join The Working Group after the 24th March 2010 meeting. Those who came forward issued their first Progress Report on 9th May 2010 which was subsequently updated on 19th May. After seeking and receiving submissions from various relevant professional bodies and legal advisors, they distributed their alternative Proposal for Primary School for Children with Autism on 2nd June 2010. This was presented at a Stakeholder meeting in Mullingar on 12th June 2010, after which the various ABA Schools' Boards of Management (BOM's) were invited to consider it. Subsequent to the issue of the Department of Education's letters of offer, The Working Group issued a letter to the school BOM's which reviewed the contents of the offer letter and recommended rejection of it. A further response to the Negotiating Team's FAQ document was also drafted, which again itemised specific areas of contradiction and/or omission from the Department's offer letter.
